| Poet, born in San Giovanni in Persiceto, Emilia-Romagna, N Italy. A blacksmith and story-teller, he wrote about 400 works in Italian and in the Bologna dialect. The best-known are Le sottilissime astuzie di Bertoldo (1606) and Le piacevoli e ridicole simplicità di Bertoldino (1608), which are exuberant readaptations of mediaeval legends. |
