| Writer, born in Milan, Lombardy, N Italy. In exile after the 1848 revolutionary rising, he became a senator of the Italian parliament in 1876. A friend of Alessandro Manzoni, he wrote literary essays and novels that show traces of his influence, such as the sentimental novel Angiola Maria (1839) and Damiano (1850). He also translated Shakespeare. |
