| Poet, born in Palermo, Sicily, S Italy. A doctor, he wrote in Sicilian dialect the satiric poem La fata galanti (1759) and Poesie siciliane (1787–9). His strong belief in the Enlightenment is reflected in the Riflessioni sul meccanismo della natura in rapporto alla conservazione e riparazione dell'individui (1777) and he was one of the founders of the Sicilian Academy in 1790. His last work, Favule murali (1814), is influenced by pre-Romanticism. |
