| biography:
| Religious painter, born in Parma, N Italy. He was one of the first interpreters of Baroque illusionism, widely influencing and copied by later painters. The best of his work can be seen on the dome of San Andrea della Valle in Rome, and in his paintings for the cathedral at Naples, where he worked from 1633 to 1646. |
