| Film actor, born in Peekskill, New York, USA. In 1968 his family emigrated to Australia, where he trained as an actor at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney, he made several stage appearances before making his film debut in Summer City (1977). He became an international star following his leading role in the trio of action-packed Mad Max films (1979, 1981, 1985) and the highly successful Lethal Weapon series (1987, 1989, 1992, 1998). He displayed different facets of his talent in Tequila Sunrise (1988) and Forever Young (1992), and gave a well-received interpretation of Hamlet (1990). He directed and starred in Braveheart (1995, Oscar Best Film, Golden Globe). Later films include Ransom (1996), Payback (1999), The Patriot (2000), and We Were Soldiers (2002). |
