| Poet and priest, born in Chiampo, Veneto, NE Italy. Banned from teaching by the Austrians because of his patriotism, in 1866 he obtained the chair of Italian literature at Padua University. He wrote poems, such as Sopra una conghiglia fossile (1864) and Astichello (1881), whicht tried in a classic, clear language, to reconcile enthusiasm for scientific progress and Christian spiritualism. |
