| biography:
| Italian politician, born in Teramo, Abruzzo-Molise, E Italy. A founder of the Partito Radicale (Radical Party) in 1956, he is best known for leading a number of civil rights campaigns, including those for divorce and abortion. He has been a deputy of the European Parliament since 1979 and supported the transformation of the Radical Party into a ‘transnational’ party. He failed to be re-elected in 1994 and 1996 in spite of working closely with the Polo delle Libertà. |
