| Painter, born in Utrecht, The Netherlands. He moved to Italy (c.1610), returning to Holland in 1620, and twice visited England (1620, 1628), where he painted portraits of the royal family. He was fond of painting candle-lit interiors. His brother William van Honthorst (1604–66), historical and portrait painter, worked for the court of Berlin (1650–64). |
