| Writer, born in Hanover, NC Germany. Raised in a working-class background, the themes prevalent in his output are those of work, machines, technology, and the city. His chief works include Rhythmus der neuen Europa, the title of which highlights his belief in the ‘new man’ emerging after the war, Briefe der Liebe (1926), and Gesang der Welt (1927), which comprises letters and diary extracts. His poetry was influenced by that of Whitman and Dehmel. One of the early Expressionists, he died only days before the end of World War 1. |
