| Physicist, born in Den Helder, The Netherlands. He studied at the University of Utrecht, where he became professor (1977), and carried out research under Martinus Veltman into gauge theories in particle physics, black holes, and other aspects of quantum physics. He shared the 1999 Nobel Prize for Physics for his role in elucidating the quantum structure of electroweak interactions. |
