| Biochemist, born in New York City, USA. He studied at Pennsylvania and Rockefeller universities, and became professor of biochemistry at Rockefeller in 1966. His special interest was in the chemical structure and mode of action of the antibodies which form part of a vertebrate animal's defence against infection. He shared the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1972. |
