| Writer, born in Brake, NW Germany. An art teacher who had served as an officer in World War 1, his war diary Soldat Suhren (1927) was his first success. His varied output included war books written in the realist tradition, detective stories, and lyrical, love, and nature poetry, such as Verse für Minette (1947) and Der Schwan (1961). He also translated Verlaine and Maupassant. |
