| Marxist philosopher, historian, and journalist, ‘the father of Russian Marxism’, born in Gundalovka, W Russia. He left Russia in 1880, and in 1883 founded the first Russian Marxist group (the Liberation Labour Group) in Geneva, where he remained until 1917. He was a major intellectual influence on the young Lenin, but sided with the Mensheviks against Lenin's Bolsheviks, and denounced the October Revolution. |
