| biography:
| Playwright, born in Bordeaux, SW France. He began with poetry, Prima Verba (1872), and historical dramas, but made his most original contribution with the psychological plays produced at the new Théâtre-Libre of André Antoine in the 1890s. Amoureuse (1891) and Le Passé (1897) are generally considered to be his best plays, all variations on the theme of the eternal triangle. |
