| Swiss engineer who invented Velcro fastening. After a shooting trip in 1948 his clothes had picked up a number of burrs, which he later studied under a microscope. He saw the possibility of making a fastener based on the same principle of hundreds of tiny hooks, and eventually succeeded, producing the now familiar strips of nylon in 1956. |
