biography: Clergyman and French statesman, born in Chaumont-sur-Loire, C France. Bishop of Montauban at the age of 14 (1474) and Archbishop of Rouen (1493), he became cardinal and first minister under Louis XII in 1498. He brought about the Treaty of Blois (1505) which resulted in a Franco-Spanish alliance. His tomb is in Rouen Cathedral.
