| Illusionist and film maker, born in Paris, France. He made his name in Paris as a stage magician. Immediately after the invention of the cinema, he began making short films, and from 1895 was a pioneer in trick cinematography to present magical effects. His films include Voyage to the Moon (1902) and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1907). He fell into obscurity after 1913, and died in poverty. |
