| Physician, born in Paris, France. He studied medicine in Paris, and became professor of therapy and materia medica in 1879, working for much of his long career at the Hôpital Tenon. He first described the platelets in the blood, and did classic work on the formation and diseases of the red and white blood cells. He also published important accounts of diseases of several organs, including the stomach, liver, heart, and brain. |
