| Writer, born in Paris, France. He did not begin to write seriously until he was 37 and had taken degrees in law and letters. A Catholic polemicist, he attacked indifference and was preoccupied with problems of sin and grace. His most memorable novels are Sous le soleil de Satan (1926, trans The Star of Satan) and Le Journal d'un curé de campagne (1936, The Diary of a Country Priest). |
