| Novelist and philosopher, born in Billom, SC France. He established several reviews, including Acéphale, Documents (1928), and Critique (1946). Influenced by Hegel, Nietsche, and Heidegger, his own essays proved influential on his contemporaries, their titles indicating the themes: from La Littérature et le mal (1937) and L'Expérience intérieure (1943), to L'Erotisme (1957) and the theme of death in Les Larmes d'Eros (1961). He reflected on art and literature in Lascaux ou la Naissance de l'art (1955), and his novels include Le Bleu du ciel (1957) and Ma Mère (1966). |
