| biography:
| US governor, born in Fairfield Co, Ohio, USA. He was admitted to the bar in Ohio (1850) and moved to Kansas in 1859. He served eight terms in the Kansas legislature and became the first Democratic governor of Kansas (1883–5). He later served on the state board of agriculture. Kansas placed his statue in the US Capitol. |
