| biography:
| US statesman, born in New York City, USA. He studied at Princeton and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, then taught at MIT and Chicago, where he became dean of the Graduate School of Business. He was named secretary of labour by President Nixon (1969), and went on to hold a number of high governmental posts before returning to private life in 1974. In 1982 President Reagan made him secretary of state, a post he retained for the rest of the Reagan presidency. |
