| Journalist and poet, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. In 1823 he founded the New York Mirror and became its editor (1824–42). He later edited the Evening Mirror and the Home Journal (1846–64). He published many poems, including the celebrated ‘Woodman, Spare that Tree’. |
