| Meteorologist, born in West Chester, Pennsylvania, USA. He founded the joint numerical weather prediction unit at the US Weather Bureau (1954) and was instrumental in developing worldwide weather prediction capabilities. Director of the US Weather Bureau (1965–79), he won many awards including the Robert M Losey award in 1965. |
