| Designer, architect, and writer, born in Hartford, Connecticut, USA. After graduating in architecture he travelled in Europe during the early 1930s, familiarizing himself with the work of the ‘Modern Movement’. Its influence is evident in his design work, the best known being his range of wall storage furniture (1946) for the manufacturer Herman Miller, whose design policy he directed. He was editor of Architectural Forum (1935–44), and wrote widely on design and architectural subjects. |
