| Anglican clergyman, born in London, UK. After service in the RAF, he studied divinity at King's College, London. He held Church posts in London and Durham, then became Principal of Trinity Theological College, Bristol (1982–7). He was appointed Bishop of Bath and Wells in 1987 and Archbishop of Canterbury (1991–2002). |
