| Public opinion expert, born in Jefferson, Iowa, USA. He was professor of journalism at Drake and Northwestern universities until 1932, and, after a period directing research for an advertising agency, became professor at the Pulitzer School of Journalism, Columbia University. In 1935 he founded the American Institute of Public Opinion, and evolved the Gallup polls for testing the state of public opinion. |
