| Novelist, born in Carrington Village, SE Barbados. He was a teacher before moving to England in 1950, where he hosted a book programme for the BBC West Indian Service. His first novels, with their unfamiliar background and terminology, received a lukewarm reception, but he continued to write about his West Indian experiences, notably Natives of My Person (1972). |
