| biography:
| Cartoonist, born in Devon, SW England, UK, the creator of Bonzo the Dog. After trying both engineering and stockbroking, he created comic strips for Big Budget (1903). Graduating to the glossy weekly, Sketch, he created Studdy's War Studies (1915), semi-animated cartoon films for Gaumont. After World War 1 he began specializing in dog cartoons, from which the Bonzo character emerged. In 1924 he produced the first fully-animated cartoon film series made in England (Bonzo, 26 films). He also drew a Bonzo strip for Titbits (1926), and a daily and Sunday strip for USA syndication by King Features. |
