| Film director, born in New York City, USA. He worked first on Broadway, but went to Hollywood in 1929, starting a career of 50 years directing with Girls About Town (1931) and Little Women (1933). He was particularly successful with the great actresses of the star system - Garbo, Crawford, Hepburn - but his range was wide, including Gaslight (1944), A Star is Born (1954), and My Fair Lady (1964, Oscar). His last film was Rich and Famous (1981). |
