| Writer and journalist, born in Trumpington, Cambridgeshire, EC England, UK. He studied at Cambridge, became a special correspondent for the Morning Advertiser during the Crimean War, and for the Standard in the Franco–Prussian War. He is best known for his 80 historical adventure stories for boys, which sold well in Britain and the USA, including With Clive in India (1884) and With Moore at Corunna (1898). |
