In 1966 The Tyranny of Distance showed how geographical isolation had shaped the history and the people of Australia. Triumph of the Nomads (1975) and A Land Half Won (1980) completed his trilogy, A Vision of Australian History. He reached a wide popular audience through his books, as well as a television programme The Blainey View, and became well known in the 1980s for his controversial views on immigration to Australia. |
