| Figurative sculptor, born in Paris, France. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris (1898–1903). With Isabel Nagel, an American who later became his wife, he emigrated to Boston in 1906. He made his name as a portraitist, and as a sculptor of massively proportioned bronze statues of women, reputedly modelled on his wife. His most famous work is ‘Standing Woman’ (1932, Museum of Modern Art, New York City). |
