| Poet, born in Genoa, Liguria, NW Italy. The secretary to Duke Carlo Emanuele of Savoy, he wrote love poems (Rime, 1603) and La creazione del mondo (1608). Remembered for his violent quarrel with Giovanbattista Marino whom he tried to shoot dead, he wrote a collection of satirical sonnets about the event, La Marineide (1619). He was sentenced to death, but pardoned thanks to Marino's intercession. |
