| Golfer, born in Johannesburg, NE South Africa. He is one of only four golfers to win each of the four Grand Slam events. His first major success was the 1959 (British) Open, a title he also won in 1968 and 1974. He was the first non-American for 45 years to win the US Open (1965), and the first to win the US Professional Golfers Association title (1962, 1972) and the US Masters (1961, 1974, 1978). He won the South African Open 12 times, and the World Matchplay title a record five times, since matched by Ballesteros. He now breeds horses in South Africa, and is a leading member of the US Seniors Tour. |
