| Ruler of Milan. He returned to Milan from the Holy Land in 1346, but was forced to leave by his uncle Luchino. In 1349, when Giovanni succeeded, he returned and conquered Bologna (1350) with the Visconti army, and was excommunicated by the pope. After Giovanni's death in 1354 he jointly ruled with brothers Matteo II and Bernabò. Galeazzo received the W territories, Milan and Genoa, but held court at Pavia and became a patron of the arts. Bianca di Savoia gave him a son, Gian Galeazzo. |
