| Writer, born in Materada, Istria. He left his Istrian home after the border settlement with Yugoslavia in 1952. In his novels, notably the Materada saga (1960), he recreates Istrian peasant society and his emotional attachment to it in a prose infused with lyricism. Another theme is the world of Trieste's middle classes, described in the novels La ragazza di Petrovia (1963), Il bosco di acacie (1966), La miglior vita (1977), La quinta stagione (1987), and Dal luogo del sequestro (1996). |
