| German politician, born in Haßfurth, SC Germany. A member of the Sturmabteilung (SA) from 1922 and the Nationalsozialistiche Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (NSDAP) from 1923, he became Reichsstatthalter in Thuringia and a member of the Reichstag (1933–45). As general deputy in charge of the Arbeitseinsatz he was responsible for the deportation and forced labour of over 5 million people from 1942 onwards. He was sentenced to death at the Nuremberg Trials and executed in 1946. |
