| German politician, born in Störmthal bei Leipzig, EC Germany. Founder of the Nationalsozialer Verein, the aim of which was a democratic and social restructuring of state and economy, he became a member of the Reichstag (from 1907) and co-founder of the Deutsche Demokratische Partei (1918). During World War 1 he promoted the democratization of the empire under the rule of parliament, and devised a plan for a federalist economic union for C Europe. In 1919 he was elected to the National Assembly of the Weimar Republic. |
