| biography:
| Playwright and writer, born in Frankfurt, WC Germany. He was a poet with a touring theatre company before joining the Russian army as an officer (1780–1811), and became curator of Dorpat University (1803–17). The Sturm-und-Drang school was named after one of his tragedies, Der Wirrwarr, oder Sturm und Drang (1776, Confusion, or Storm and Stress). He wrote several other plays and some novels. |
