| Writer, born in Rothbach, Alsace. A novelist and journalist, he published the periodical Der Türmer which furthered the cause of folk art and literature. His popular works present a romanticized view of history and include the plays Naphtali (1888), Till Eulenspiegel (1896), and Gottfied von Straßburg (1897), and the novels Oberlin (1910) and Meisters Vermächtnis (1927). |
