| Writer, born in Konolfingen, WC Switzerland. He studied at Bern and Zürich, and turned from painting to writing. His plays, mostly grotesque and written with black humour, include Die Ehe des Herrn Mississippi (1952, The Marriage of Mr Mississippi), which established his international reputation, Die Physiker (1962, The Physicists), and Die Frist (1977, The Appointed Time). He also wrote novels, short stories, critical essays, and works for radio. |
