| Novelist and poet, born in Bussum, W Netherlands. As a novelist, she embarked on a literary tour de force with De harde kern (1992–4, The Bare Essence), an extensive work of two novels and one collection of poems in which she ventures deeply into the field of self-analysis. With this work, she adheres to the personalistic ideas of ter Braak and du Perron, which hold that the writer is the essence of his or her writing. This certainly holds in the case of Vogels, who has stated that ‘she is her book and has nothing more to add’. |
