| biography:
| Writer, born in Hildesheim, NC Germany. A poet, he served as an officer in World War 1. He was the major proponent of a new movement of ballad poetry in the style of Theodor Fontane and Moritz Strachwitz. These ballads, such as Ritterliches Liederbuch (1903), have historical themes and are a conscious effort to counteract modern trends such as Naturalism. He was approved of by the National Socialists. |
