| biography:
| Chemist, born in Darmstadt, WC Germany. He studied at Bonn and Erlangen, and in 1822 went to Paris, where he worked with Gay-Lussac. He became professor of chemistry at Giessen (1824) and Munich (1852). He investigated many aspects of organic, animal, and agricultural chemistry, and developed new techniques for carrying out analyses, such as the distillation equipment known as Liebig's condenser. He was created baron in 1845. |
