| Automobile and aeronautics pioneer, born in London, UK. He built the first experimental motor car in Britain (1895), and founded the Lanchester Engine Co in 1899. He was also consultant to Daimler, and in 1907–8 published an important two-volume work on aerodynamics, which had considerable influence on other pioneers. |
