| Physicist, born in Paterson, New Jersey, USA. He studied at New York University (1944), worked on the atomic bomb at Los Alamos (1944–9), taught at Case Western Institute of Technology (1959–66), then joined the University of California, Irvine (1966–88). For his discovery of the neutrino, one of the fundamental particles of the universe, he shared the 1995 Nobel Prize for Physics with Martin Perl. |
