| Restaurateur, born in London, UK. He emigrated to the USA c.1850 and opened his first railroad depot restaurant in Topeka, KS in 1876, and expanded to form a chain of restaurants, hotels, and dining cars associated with the new Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad. His restaurants became famous for fresh linens, fine food, and highly trained waitresses known as ‘Harvey Girls’. |
