| Electrical engineer, born in English, Indiana, USA. He studied at Stanford, and worked at Massachusetts Institute of Technology with Vannevar Bush before returning to Stanford as professor of radio engineering. He was responsible for the establishment of the Stanford Industrial Park in the university grounds (1951), linking research with industry. The park soon became the centre of the electronics industry that earned the area the name of Silicon Valley. |
