| Jesuit philosopher, born near Taunton, Somerset, SW England, UK. He studied at Oxford, was ordained in 1937, and became professor of the history of philosophy at Heythrop College (1939) and of metaphysics at the Gregorian University, Rome (1952). He wrote several books on individual philosophers and movements, as well as an eight-volume History of Philosophy (1946–66). |
